3: SHIP'S PLANS

Here's a message I received this evening from BM3 John Huard concerning
the ship's original plans.
It will be interesting on how to go about posting them on the website.

Here's what John had to say:

"The original CD of the plans are on the way. You should see them
Tuesday.
Let me know when they arrive please."

I'm still waiting for the '85 cruisebook. If anyone has it, I would

HEY BEAMER, HOW ARE YOU?
I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT HOW MANY OF THE CREW WHO SERVED ON THE MONTY
IN 1958 DURING THE ATOMIC BOMB
TESTS ARE STILL AROUND.   I HAVE DESIGNED A PATCH   THAT SHOWS THE A
BOMB WITH 1958 ON IT AND THE WORD
SURVIVOR ACROSS THE BOTTOM . I HAVE IT ON MY LEATHER VEST . I WEAR IT
ALL THE TIME WHEN I RIDE MY
MOTORCYCLE. IT DRAWS A LOT OF COMMENTS. IF YOU WANT I WILL SEND YOU A
PICTURE OF IT . LET ME KNOW.

LEROY BURSCH   GMG 2
1957 TO 1960

(I've placed the photo of the patch on the crewmember's photos page)

6: VISITOR'S REQUEST

Hi, I was a gunner on a Swift (PCF-79) that you invited aboard for
breakfast after coming off an
all night firefight in the Cu Dai River. I will never forget climbing
that chain ladder in heavy seas
from the bouncing Swift. I also will never forget the hospitality of
your crew. Thanks again!
I was wondering if anyone might still have a picture of us coming
alongside, a longshot I know
but what the heck.

Great website!

7. MESSAGE

My wife's father Elmelindo Rodriguez Smith received the Congressional
Medal
of Honor posthumously for action on 16 Feb 1967 in Viet Nam. So I am
always
interested in MOH recipients. My wife and I attended a benefit for the
last
living black Medal of Honor recipient from WWII last year in St. Maries,
Idaho.

I thought this was an interesting piece of information. I bet you never
knew that a USS Monticello sailor received the Congressional Medal of
Honor.

WARREN, DAVID, Coxswain, U.S. Navy., USS Monticello, Wilmington, N.C.,
23-25
June 1864. Check out this website.

I guess our ship had a great legacy passed down from a prior USS
Monticello.
I hope you are able to use some of these pictures for your site. You
have
done a great job.

Thanks

8. BRANSON, MISSOURI

My wife and I will be traveling to Branson in March to investigate
possible locations for
the 2007 reunion. The NRA (National Reunion Association) is sponsoring a
CONFAB for reunion
planners to Branson. I'll be sure to give you a full report on what we
find out.

10. SITE OF THE MONTH

Submitted by BM3 John Huard

One of my goals for 2006 is to reconnect with people I've known
throughout the years.
These are friends, coworkers and teachers with whom I've lost contact.

The Internet makes it easier than ever to track down long-lost friends.
There are numerous sites that help you find people. But the search can
be time-consuming.

Fortunately, I found a free program that makes things a little easier.
It's called Argali, and it will search some of the more popular
directories.

Argali will help you find e-mail addresses, phone numbers and physical
addresses.
And you can search by a number of different ways. So if you want to
rekindle an old friendship, this is a great place to start!
