2: 2009 REUNION!

The 2009 reunion will take place in San Mateo County, California.
Those that attended the reunion expressed a desire to see the MoBoat
one last time. She is in the mothball fleet in Suisun Bay in the
San Francisco bay area.

We have already began negotiations with the local hotels and the
local golf courses about the likelyhood of hosting the reunion and
a golf tournament. More on this in future newsletters.

We have 96 past crewmembers now living in California. It would be
great to see all these men show up in San Mateo!

3: NAAV

Here's a website that Robert Campbell sent me. There is a ton of good
information here
for you Atomic Veterans to check out.

4. LEGALLY ARMED

Honorably Discharged U.S. Military Veterans: If you wore any uniform
of the
U.S. Military Services, you can be authorized to carry a concealed
pistol in 27 states.
It does not matter what part of the country you live, or how long you
have been out of
uniform There is NO TRAINING required. Veterans who live in states that
do not issue
a concealed weapon license or permit [example Illinois], or states that
have a ccw may may
issue provision that is very difficult [examples California and New
Jersey],
this is your way to be legal to carry in 27 states. Provide a copy of
your DD-214,
pass a criminal background instigation, pay a license fee, and you can
receive this
authorization. Listen to this important message.

5. WEBSITE OF THE MONTH

This month for the website of the month is of special interest to those
that were
aboard during the blasts at Entewetok.
John Huard has been during his research and has sent me links containg
the Hardtack
videos. These are the same videos I had purchased some time back. I was
planning on
placing them into our website and now with John's information I don't
have to use
the bandwidth. If these link don't work for some reason, just contact me
and I'll assist.

6. NATIONAL ARCHIVES

I purchasing the last five microfilms of crew lists that the National
Archives
have identified as containing the MoBoat's crew. I expect them wothin
the next
week or so. Then I'll send them off to be digitized.

Thanks to all that have paid their duesand attended the reunion in
Branson. Without
your involvement obtaining these lists wouldn't be possible.

=====================================
7. Branson Reunion

The Branson reunion was a complete success! It was wonderful seeing all
the shipmates
reunite and to make new friends from those from other years aboard.

The Grand Plaza Hote, Branson Belle and Travel Tunes did an outstanding
job ensuring
all of our needs were taken care of.

The food and entertainment was second to none!
If you were unable to attend the Los vegas or Branson reunions, please
make a special
effort to attend our next one.

=====================================
8. THANK YOU!

I would like to thank all of you that have assisted us at the Branson
Reunion. Without
you help the event would not have been so successful.

From registration to beer runs to finding us a photographer to being a
speaker at the banquet,
many of you asssisted in our efforts to make this reunion the best yet.

And of course, Our biggest thanks goes out to Robert Campbell for
putting on two very informative
seminars for our attendees. His research and efforts probably got an
additional forty folks to
come to Branson. I've already heard back from one shipmate that said he
has appointments with the
Vetran's Administration to register as both an Atomic and Agent Orange
veteran.

Please accept our sincere thanks for a job well done!

Maria and I wish to thank you all for the gifts we received.

=====================================
9. LOOKING FOR AN ID CARD PRINTER

If anyone knows where I could purchase an inexpensive I.D. card printer
I would appreciate
an assist. This is one of those projects that I have on the back burner.
My goal is to get a
Life Member card out to all those have have paid their dues.

I did find a few on Ebay, but like any electronic device, you really
don't know if its been
used and abused.

So if you know of a card printer that is in decent shape, please pass
along the information.

10. NAVY LOG

As I have mentioned in previous newsletters, the Lonesailor.org website
hosts a database that allows you the Navy veteran to log-in your
information and post a photo of yourself. I would like
to see all the MoBoat sailors logged into the Navy Log. It's free.

Wall Plaque Commemorative

The Commemorative Plaque Wall offers individuals and groups the
opportunity to create a permanent memorial by sponsoring a plaque
dedicated to an individual, group, ship, squadron, command, battle
or event within the U.S. Sea Services, while supporting the mission of
the Navy Memorial.
The plaques are publicly displayed within the Naval Heritage Center and
on the Internet, where they are viewed by thousands of veterans,
families, friends, tourists and school groups who visit Washington or
browse our website.

Each plaque is an archival Silvaloy plate measuring seven by three and
three-quarter inches and is created by our Graphic Designer in
co-operation with the plaque's sponsor. Plaques can include
pictures, text, group insignias, logos, and other graphical elements.

Plaque sponsors are given a picture of the plaque on a CD-ROM and can
use the image to create coffee cups, fabric patches, baseball caps, or
other items using the picture.

Each sponsor is also entitled to a dedication ceremony in our theater.
During the ceremony, a member of the Memorial's leadership team will
give a speech honoring the sponsors of the plaque,
in addition to any other speakers from the sponsoring group. Often,
Plaque Dedications are done in conjunction with a scheduled reunion in
the greater Washington D.C. area. These events are frequently
very meaningful to the participants.

The USS Enterprise (CVA/CVAN-65) Reunion Group, for example, dedicated
its plaque on October 6, 2006.
The event attracted a large number of veterans and their families, as
well as active duty Navy personnel.
The current Captain and Crew of that ship, now on station in the Middle
East, prepared a video thanking the veterans for their tremendous
service and sacrifice. The Memorial provided a professional photographer
to document the occasion.

Once the process is complete, exact replicas of the plaque, mounted on a
handsome wood backing suitable for display or hanging, are available as
retail items.

A Commemorative Plaque is a wonderful way to honor the men and women of
the United States Sea Services - past, present and future.
