Hey PDDT----Well you guessed it right. We did not do as well as we would
have liked at the Morgan Cup in Newport last weekend. If we had won I
would have told you so on Sun evening, but we finished 5 out of 6. We
beat NYYC's second team, and their other team won the event. The weather
was a bit light and flukey with at least 2 knots of current most of the
time. Not excuses, just telling the conditions. The other teams clearly
out sailed us, but we did finish on a high note by beating the team that
won in the last race. The level of competition was the best and so we at
least got some respect. They are interested in coming to N.O. for an
event and I would like to set something up for the winter--say feb or
mar and have them come and sail here. Should be FUN and interesting to
watch. Around the circuits I see that Ashley Legros won the
sportsmanship award at the Leiter which is voted on by the competitors.
It is nice to receive these kind of accolades, congrats. The SYC
contingent of Doug White and John Lee with Louise Bienvenue from LPWSA
won the North South team racing event at the L-16 Intergalactics in
Chicago. ( Lohn Lee's stomping ground) Fleet racing begins today, I
think. Crewing for them was Mamsie Manard, Tom Beyer and Michele Hitter.
Katy Lovell finished 3rd in a match racing event in Catalina 37's in
Long Beach Cal, and Johnny and Charlie are in Sweden sailing the Tornado
European Champs. Also at the Leiter Cup, Becca Denny finished 18th,
Margot Provensal 26th and Ncole Buechler 10th overall. Go Girls!I think
that was in Cal also. Maybe Marina Del Ray. By the way, Big Dwight
would like to pass the torch on heading up the Prince Of Wales
representative so I would like to thank him for all of his past efforts
and ask if there is anyone that would like to take his place. Please let
me know if you are interested. Ian Richards has been in Barrington R.I.
sailing the Laser 4.7 Worlds and last I saw was in top third of the
fleet. Go to Barrington YC site for more info. I almost forgot--- Peter
Sladovich with Rocky Sanchez and Entertainment Committee Diva-- Lizbeth
Duett won the R-19 Regionals in Fairhope Ala. Phil Hubbell and Gretchen
Foust won the Ellis trophy for combined efforts and scores in Birthday
Regatta and Summer on the Coast. Pearson Potts won the New England
Champs and finally, Jackson Benvenutti is leading in the Sears Cup which
should finish up today, I believe. John Gray Parker and Michael Levert
are sailing Bemis at the same venue in California, but they are having a
tough time in the light and flukey conditions. As I always say--- when
the going gets squirrely, the squirrels get going, or something like
that. Hope I didn't miss anyone, but gotta get to work. Don't forget
about the Knost at PCYC this weekend, OMT will be there and you all are
welcome to ride and observe. By the way, the Swim Team banquet is sat at
5 and they will be celebrating an undefeated dual meet Div A season.
Call the club and make your reservations to support them. And further by
the way can I borrow someone's wheels at PCYC to run home for the
banquet? Kay is working so I'm on my own without wheels. Let me know if
someone could help out. I hope I get a better response here than I did
with the Fishing Rodeo effort. Kay was the weighmaster and apparently
there is more competition there than I thought. She had to interpret the
rules and as it turns out---disqualify some late arrivals at the scales.
I don't think she is going to forgive me for giving her the opportunity
to be weighmaster, especially since she had to give out awards too. See
you over the weekend. Goooooooo TEAM. Corky P.S. It is not TEAM goo.
