Neil:
Thanks for your thoughts. In fact, one of the concepts
behind the internal idea marketplace is that it allows
innovative people to accumulate innovation budget
regardless of their place in the firm.
Although a entry level employee would start with a much
lower innovation budget than would a senior manager, she
could in time build up a much bigger innovation budget than
her superior.
If she implements her ideas and they succeed, she receives
additional innovation budget. Moreover, if she has good
ideas she does not want to implement, she will be able to
sell them to others in exchange for innovation budget. Thus
the most innovative people will - in time - acquire the
largest innovation budgets.

Hi Jeffrey,
The only comment I would have is on the line"The actual
budget would depend upon each person's position in the
firm." Unfortunately, innovation isn't measured by a
person's rank in a firm. It comes from within.A middle
manager may come up with many more ideas than a Senior
Manager who hardly has any time to think about them. I guess
from a strategic point of view, your comment makes sense. At
an interview for a Senior Manager, they might be asked,
"Where do you see yourself in 5 years?"This is where an
innovator or imaginative person can provide their vision of
the workplace in terms of making advancements by working
smarter. Take it easy. Neil ----Original Message Follows----

Dear ValpoCellans:
Time to wake up!
In the latest issue of Report 103
(http://www.jpb.com/report103/archive.php?issue_no=20041012)
I proposed a concept of internal idea market places. In a
nutshell, an internal idea marketplace is about giving every
person in an enterprise an innovation budget for
implementing ideas. The actual budget would depend upon each
person's position in the firm.
If people have ideas, they can use their budget to
implement those ideas. If the ideas bring money to the
enterprise, the idea implementer receives a commensurate
addition to her innovation budget.
Importantly, in an idea marketplace, employees can buy and
sell ideas using their innovation budget. If you have a
