Hello everyone. Facilitated meetings are set up by the city so that
residents and developers can meet in a discussion that is facilitated
by a neutral third party. The discussion usually involves a variance
that developer wishes to obtain to the zoning regulations in our area.
The discussion is written up by the facilitator and provided to the
City's hearing body.
We go to the facilitated meetings to explain the VENA board's point
of view on the issue. But any resident can go and speak up with
their point of view as well.
Tuesday, August 25, 6:45 PM at Covenant United Methodist Church:
Newman Homes, the developer of Tierra Morena, would like a change
to their site plan for the landscaping along north side of Signal
just east of Barstow. The site plan calls for trees to be planted
between the sidewalk and the street. The developer would like
smaller xeric plants instead.
In solidarity with the residents of Carrington who see this
sidewalk and the wall behind it from their homes, the VENA board
voted to oppose the request and ask that the trees be planted as
originally planned.
Monday, September 8, 6:45 PM at Covenant United Methodist Church:
The New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union is building a new
credit union at the south west corner of Paseo and Barstow. The
La Cueva Sector Plan requires that the letters on their sign not
exceed 2 feet in height. They are asking for a variance of 1' 8"
for their wall mounted signs to allow for letters that are 3' 8" high.
And they are asking for a variance of 9.5" to their monument sign
for letters that are 2' 9.5" high.
We have asked for drawings showing compliant lettering and also
their proposed lettering, for comparison. We won't vote until we see
these drawings. In general we don't like variances to the plan,
unless there is a very good reason.
