Hi All,
FYI - advance info from IMMA:
The Irish Museum of Modern Art is currently organising an exhibition
about Morton Feldman and his relationship with the visual arts.
Entitled "Vertical Thoughts: Morton Feldman and the Visual Arts", the
exhibition is scheduled to take place at IMMA in Dublin between 30
March – 27 June 2010.
Morton Feldman is widely considered one of the most influential
composers of the second half of the 20th century. During his long
career he was closely associated with a number of visual artists –
particularly those connected with the New York School. Indeed in 1967
he curated an exhibition entitled "Six Painters" in Houston, Texas;
the exhibition included work by Mondrian, Guston, Kline, de Kooning,
Pollock and Rothko.
The exhibition will display music scores, record covers, photographs
and documents; but also works of art by fourteen different artists
associated with Feldman. These include: Francesco Clemente, Willem de
Kooning, Philip Guston, Jasper Johns, Alex Katz, R.B. Kitaj, Franz
Kline, Piet Mondrian, Barnet Newman, Jackson Pollock, Robert
Rauschenberg, Ad Reinhardt, Mark Rothko and Cy Twombly. We are hoping
to include artworks from Feldman’s original collection, portraits,
and also some of the works included in the exhibition "Six Painters"
which was curated by Feldman. It will also include oriental rugs from
his collection which were influential in this thinking. We hope to
extend the scope of the exhibition by showing the films on de Kooning
and Pollock which had scores composed by Feldman, as well as
organising a festival of Feldman’s music.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue
and will include newly commissioned essays by friends of Feldman:
Dore Ashton, Brian O’Doherty, Francesco Pellizzi and Kevin Volans.
It will also include a text by Juan Manuel Bonet, curator of the
exhibition and former director of MNCRS, Madrid.
Regards -
Chris
