Hi y'all
Hope you're enjoying the summer weather out on the trails and
staying ahead of the deer flies....
This is crunch time...If you ever wanted more trail access in the
Green Mountain National Forest, now is your chance to speak up.
The topic of the July Forest Plan revision meetings is recreational
trails, and this is one of the only times we'll get to press for the
same type of access to trails that mountain bikers now have in almost
every other major National forest but ours.
i don't really want to go all preachy but this time i gotta say-GET
OFF THE BIKE for one night and attend the meeting closest to you, and
drag a couple of riding buds with you.
Bribe them, ply them with whatever but bring a crowd to these meetings.
This includes you people out in the hinterlands, even if you're not
close enough to the forest to ride there on a regular basis.
Another opportunity to get access like this won't come around while most
of us are still able to ride, so do it now. Many of us have all paid
our dues to various localized trail groups, even when we aren't
necessarily close enough to ride some of them regularly, and now it's
time for all the groups to pull together and do something for the state
as a whole.
(My apologies to the usual suspects for the lecture, this is aimed
at those folks who've never been to a meeting when it counted....)
A word on strategy, for those of you who can't make a meeting for a
real reason, but who've hiked, skied or otherwise used a non-wilderness
designated Forest Service trail that would make for good biking...Send
us your trail wish list ASAP.
Reply here to me or to VMBA officers, but let someone who is going to
the meetings know, so we can try to get everyone on the same chapter, if
not on the same page. We don't want to leave any potentially good
riding trails out, but i don't know that any of us know all of the
forest that well...
So please help out to the greatest extent that you can...
