Hi all,
Happy spring! Amazing how fast it's drying out, just
took the studs off a few days ago it seems, and already it's dangerously
dry in places.
Heads up for some meetings on the Forest Service plan revision. They
have chosen a preferred alternative which, as i understand it, is not as
bike friendly as it might be.
These meetings are a chance for the FS to explain the impacts of the
chosen alternative, and for the mountain bike community to understand
what needs to be done by way of comments. This is getting to be
late in the game now, so it's really important that all of us rally to
call for more bike access. If we blow it now we won't see another
chance for better bike access in the national forest for 15 years.....
Thus it would be great if the VMBA board would actually develop a
position on the preferred alternative and check in with the FS, as an
organization. NEMBA is working on a response as we speak. Double check
me, but as far as i know the public comment period will end at the end
of June, so it's now or never for most of us..... After that the FS
will make its decision.
The meeting details are as follows, they all begin at 6:30 p.m.
Weds. April 20th, Mount Snow Resort
Rte. 100, Dover
Tues. April 26th, Rutland Intermediate School 63 Library Ave.
Rutland.
Weds. April 27th Capitol Plaza Hotel
100 State St Montpelier
You can read the plan online by going to the Forest Service website,
which is:
www.fs.fed.us/r9/gmfl/nepa_planning/plan_revision.htm
Please weigh in with your comments if you can. It's been a long 20
years in getting to the point of vastly improved access in the Green
Mountain National Forest.
Happy pedaling,
Rob Macgregor
