pleased to tell you that earlier this afternoon the total remaining bill of
$15,328.12 owed to Student Programs from the Sigma Pi Chapter
(reference my note
below of May 28, 2004) was paid in full. Accordingly, as promised in my
earlier
note, I am informing you that we should now remove the suspension of
the Sigma
Pi group and restore this chapter to full IFC membership and recognition
by the
Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Please take this action
immediately.</SPAN></FONT></DIV>

also make two observations. One, our staff informs me that when the
brothers
vacated the on-campus house this past spring, they left the house in very
good
condition. In fact, the staff was quite impressed with the condition and the
brothers should be congratulated and acknowledged for this. Second, let
me point
out that the payment in full of the balance due is a real tribute to the
brothers, their alumni, their national officers, and their headquarters staff
who worked together to make this happen. This shows what can happen
when
everyone works together as a team.</SPAN></FONT></DIV>

have been working with the Sigma Pi chapter and their national office in
trying to get their remaining balance due to the Student Programs
division
paid off. Dave Edwards, Assistant Executive Director of the Sigma Pi
Fraternity, called me this morning to indicate that they are still making
progress, but that they will be unable to pay off the remaining balance
due by
the agreed upon deadline of June 1 That balance is now at $15,328.12
($15,203.12 in vacancy charges and $125.00 in damage charges). He
indicated
that we should proceed with the suspension action which we had
discussed.</SPAN></FONT></DIV>

28052004>Accordingly, I
am regretfully directing the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life
and the Interfraternity Council to immediately suspend the Virginia Tech
Chapter of the Sigma Pi Fraternity from its status as a member
fraternity. This chapter should not be included in the roster of IFC
fraternities. The chapter is hopeful of having the balance paid off
sometime
during the fall semester. If and when that happens, I will inform you and
ask
you at that point to remove the suspension and restore their
membership. We
all hope that we can look forward to that
