The pattern that jumps out at me is all of the studies involve a time period far to short to reveal any useful information regarding weight training other than the widely known "beginner gains" effect that manifest as an apparent increase in strength.

Good thing we don't rely on 6-12 week "studies" to evaluate the effectiveness of cancer drugs, eh? How about looking at say a group of college athletic programs over the course of one or more seasons. Of course it might be a problem finding any competitive rowing, swimming, or track programs that don't employ weight training.

The other pattern I see in the three original references is that the only program that showed any positive result was the only one that made even a modicum of sense with regard to a well constructed strength regime.
