I’m pleased to announce a joint meeting of WICS and the Welsh Critical
Care Improvement Programme (WCCIP) to discuss managed clinical networks.
It’s to be held at Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells on Thursday 9th
November 2006 at 1 p.m.
We are arranging several speakers for the afternoon including Dr Jane
Eddleston, Critical Care Lead at the Department of Health.
There will then be a WICS members only meeting at 5 p.m., chaired by Ian
Greenway, with the aim of producing a WICS Position Statement.
That will be followed by a meal, courtesy of WCCIP.
All WICS members are invited so please attend if you can. Please can you
let Chris Hancock know if you are coming so he can organise food etc.:

The issue of networks is very important for the future of the units we
work in. This is a crucial time to influence how they will work – the
three network Chief Executives have just been appointed.
Clearly all members won’t be able to attend so it might be useful to use
this discussion group to start to shape the position statement.
Here are some questions to start you off:
What should the aims of the networks be?
What should the relationships be between the 3 networks and the
supervising body (Critical Care Advisory Group)? e.g. devolved regional
networks with minimal central control versus centralised management with
regional flavours…
Who has access to the data that units and networks will have to collect?
How will clinicians be able to influence commissioning (that is
investment / disinvestment)?
