WICS members at the WCCIP event at Llandrindod Wells 9/11/06 had the opportunity to discuss the state of play for critical care networks in Wales. Chairs for the three regional networks have been appointed, but not network managers or lead clinicians as yet. The advisory group(AWCCAG) has met 2 weeks ago with Andy Webb remaining the chair after dissolution of the AWCCDG. Little progress in setting up the the networks has occured so far.
Summary of WICS members discussion was:
1. Position statement to the networks(attached)
2. To facilitate clinical input to the networks all trusts with critical care units should have a nominated individual to discuss clinical aspects and feedback via the Lead Clinicians to the networks. Such discussion would be by email without the need for meetings.
3. WICS should increase nurse membership, either associate or full, and develop a subgroup of nurses within WICS in the manner of the WITS group, with representation on council. There was much interest in this by nurses at the WCCIP meeting. Critical care nurses are very involved in current developments, such as care bundles, and appear keen to have a voice on such developments.
Please feel free to comment on any of this.
