Yiddish in Israel: Past, Present, and Future
October 15-16, 2005

Composer and pianist Daniel Galay, music director at the Beit-Frankfurt
Conservatory in Tel-Aviv, and cellist Rachel Galay will perform
traditional Jewish music set to Yiddish texts on Saturday evening at
8:00 p.m.

   A day-long workshop from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Sunday will examine
the state of Yiddish in Israel, including:

Yiddish poetry in pre-state Palestine and Israel with Yael Chaver,
author of What Must Be Forgotten: The Survival of Yiddish writing in
Zionist Palestine

Discussion IN YIDDISH with Daniel Galay on the new Ashkenazi identity
movement in Israel and the state of Yiddish today.
Screening of the documentary Mame-Loshn, Kinder-Loshn, Israel 2003.
Yiddish with English subtitles, 53mins.

Saturday evening concert tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the
door. Pre-registration is required for the Sunday workshop; the workshop
fee is $54 (kosher dairy lunch included). Email prog-@bikher.org or
